Work sites Day 2, Thursday June 11

Tuesday night was a night of sharing our experiences the first day at worksites. After we sang four songs with the entire CVC/Immanuel team led our time of sharing. We went through each of the worksites and everyone shared what they did! Here are some examples:
        1. Media site:  Ruby Koetsier shared about how their team travels from site to site to take pictures and video of the team in action. Tuesday they went to the agriculture site and saw them vaccinate animals and castrate pigs. What was most impacting was seeing JR. and his way with each farmer he saw. He spoke with them in Spanish and developed relationship with each farmer. Because he knew what he was doing, he went right in and did what needed to be done.
        2. Education Monte Sinai: Megan and Shelby both work in the Education site at the church. The classes are very full and it was dificult to ensure individual attention so it was great that they had Michelle from the other team there as well. Shelby really enjoyed the play time with the kids on the new playground set that SI has set up for them.
        3. Women's social work: Lizette Cisneros (I visited that site today) went on two home visits today with the majority of time spent at a woman's home in San Miguel. It was very humbling for us all to see  where Doña Alba lives with her 4 children. She lives in conditions we can't even imagine. Her girls were broken, emotionless because of lack of hope. Blake and Christina Davis, directors of SI Guatemala, provided Alba with a stove in order for her to prepare tortillas to sell in the community. We had lunch with Blake and Christina there.
        4. Health Care- At the health clinic site, Taylor Vos, from the other team works alongside Dr. Sara Romero and shared how amazing it is to watch her work with families in need of medical care. She takes care of those needs but also looks into their spiritual formation as well and relates how Jesus had to walk miles to provide healing,  as well,  just as they do. Jesus loves, he heals and he cares. The others on her team echoed that as well and added that we appreciate keeping  a schedule at home, and here it is different with Dr. Sara Romero's  being intentional with the community.
        5. Child sponsorship: Erika Roeloffs shared visiting a local private school that has some
sponsored children. She loved the affection of all of the adorable Guatemalan children that is given the minute you walk in the door. The afternoon was spent stuffing envelopes and recognizing the name of some of the sponsors back in the states was so awesome!
          6. Creative Arts: Jonna Lemstra, Lindsey Calvin and Courtney, my daughter. They now have their own facility and they all shared how amazing Alvaro the site leader is at sharing devotions, especially with the older boys. The art site is a place for kids to come and take classes in art and create bookmarks and paintings sold To raise funds for supplies.
          7.  The sports site: Dennis Rietema and Kohler Royce from Immanuel were there they played volleyball  and soccer in the morning in the community of El Gorrion. The kids had an endless amount of energy and it resulted in a bit of chaos. The favorite part of their day was the home visit
they made to a family.
          8. Agriculture: Cooper Calvin and JR Roeloffs are in this site and as was mentioned earlier, castrated pigs and vaccinated animals. They travelled to 3-4 different farms and stopped to pray with each family while there.
Worship was amazing and the kids opened up about their day: successful day! So excited to see how God moves their hearts even more over the next week and a half! Prayers are appreciated as we seek to glorify him and allow our hearts to break over what breaks His. 🙏❤️

  1. Wow! It appears that everything is going well! How cool is it that JR knows what he is doing, speaks Spanish, and is such a relational type of person. All of the sites sound interesting for you to be visiting. Love you.
