"Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord and not people, because you know the Lord will reward each one for the good they do." Ephesians 6: 7-8
Magdalena and El Gorrion has become a place for us to reflect on who God wants us to be, and how he wants us to serve. These past 2-3 weeks have been amazing! We have all been richly blessed as we see others here living in circumstances we can't even imagine. Yesterday I had the chance to visit a 19 year old girl I used to sponsor, that just had a baby 15 days ago. They live in a 1 room tin shack, and the baby was so beautiful. When her baby was born emergency C section, the baby had no more amniotic fluid. Had it been an hour later, the baby would have died! Health issues, severe hunger, alcoholism, abuse in the home, deaths in the family, we have seen their homes, cried with them, and prayed with them. But is it enough? Students International offers year round relief efforts for these families by providing affordable health care, micro finance loans, child sponsorship, and help through donations. God is faithful, and will care for these as well as other community needs.
Hard to come to terms with the fact that we will be leaving in a few days, but we are comforted to know that other teams will come to blessand encourage their faith in Him.
We have remained free of really any sickness, and have been able to attend our worksites. I hope you have all had a chance to see our pictures on Facebook and the students in action. Tomorrow we have the SI banquet, the DVD will be shown, and we will be able to reflect on our time spent in our worksites. I am so excited to go as we have it in the Community Center for the first time ever! In the morning, we have the site tour, and we will be walking around to see the different sites and hear their stories.
Today was a sad day to say our goodbyes to our last workday. Tonight we had a birthday party for Kylee Rogers and had the chance to eat some birthday cake, sing and laugh with her. We also had a special last dinner with our host families. So many great memories of our time here in 2013!
