Thoughts of the Antigua streets, friends who speak Spanish and little English and language school lessons will be quickly upon us. It's easy for me a s a leader to be excited because I have been so many times before.
This past week however, ministry site assignments were given out, and what we have been planning for the last few months will quickly be a reality. Many students are experiencing excitement, some are experiencing, a bit of fear at being away from home, or not getting the ministry site placement they would have liked. There are so many details that go into a trip like this, and be assure that Students International tries it's best to give your the most comfortable arrangements it possible can!
As I reflect back on our plans and thoughts, students said their biggest challenge would be adjusting to a new culture, speaking Spanish and getting used to being away from home. Please pray for each of us as we spend time way from our families, and will meet our host families, most of us will have 2 separate host families in the 3 weeks we spend there. When the students were asked how they hoped Guatemala changes them, they mentioned bringing them out of their comfort zone, not taking things for granted and keeping that "mountain top" experience, and improving their relationship with God. In their prayer requests they mentioned people praying for our safety as we travel, and that we wouldn't be the team that "holds back". A student also mentioned being considerate and helpful to the Guatemalans, that we would be used in our worksite to help the most we possibly can, and also learn how God wants to use us & that EVERYTHING we do and say will glorify Him.!!!
Wow, couldn't have said it better myself. We are in for an awesome trip, the students are already demonstrating maturity and leadership, and Students International has prepared and planned for us to arrive in Magdalena with a team from Kingsburg! We are going to serve alongside alongside a local team from First Baptist Church in Kingsburg. We have had the opportunity to meet with them once, and are excited to serve with them in just a few weeks.
Pray for us, for our safety, our adjustment to the new culture, and as the students said, that they would see God's love in us. So proud to be working with your kids and Students International!
Alexa Blundell came to visit today before she leaves to go to Guatemala tonight to serve on summer staff! She has come with CVC to Guatemala the past 2 years. Be in prayer for her as she will be there for at least 6 weeks. Shelly Leyendekker, a former CVC Guatemala team member will be serving on summer staff in Nicaragua, and Kylee Rogers served summer staff in Guatemala and this summer is joining the summer staff in Costa Rica. God is to be exalted that these hong ladies have chosen to serve him through missions in these countries. Pray for them as they serve as well
