It is hard to believe that it is already Wednesday, and after today there are only 2 days left of language school. Today was a great day in La escuela Maya: your students were laughing, playing bananagrams and Scrabble with their teachers. One student even said, my teacher enjoys stories..telling stories in Spanish and in English. Another said they joined up with another teacher and student to play Uno together in Spanish! They are learning a lot and working really hard, you should be proud!
Our team is doing very well. I loaded up a few of them with some Tums for uneasy stomachs. A few are feeling tired, so we postponed the trip for today until later in the week so we could enjoy a restful day here in Antigua. Today we plan to exchange some money at the bank, go to the market, rest, and enjoy a fun salsa lesson later this evening!
The biggest challenge right now for the team is the distraction of wifi. Some of the Students have wifi in their homes and we all have access to it at the language school. While I have encouraged them all to touch base with their families upon arrival, the availability of wifi this week has also become a distraction for some of the students. In addition, it can also send a negative message to the host culture. I am writing this because I want to ask you all to be praying for the students to understand that their time here is short and can be a very fruitful and growing experience if they choose to be present. I have encouraged them to limit their time on their phones talking with family and friends so that they can interact more with the team and the local culture; and I ask that as friends and family of those here, that you would understand and encourage them in that as well. I also ask that you pray for the students to develop a selfless and missionary attitude, despite the fact that the actual mission trip does not start until next week. Language school week is a great opportunity to show others in our school and host families why we are here and Who we are here to serve. Thank you for your prayers, and please be encouraged that the students are being stretched in countless ways to learn more about Christ, His kingdom, and His diverse body of believers.
In Him,
Connie
Prayer request granted. You are so right about the distraction. Praying the kids will joyfully understand. This day and age is so difficult being plugged in all the time. Rest from internet will be a blessing for all
